Legendary Allen Iverson is a cool guy in the NBA, but he admits that he can’t compete with basketball king Michael Jordan.
When thinking about Allen Iverson, people will immediately think about the top passes with their very own brand.
One of the most impressive dribbles in Iverson’s career was when he passed Basketball King Michael Jordan.
“Today, when five or six year olds see me, they don’t ask ‘Are you Allen Iverson’? No! Not at all! Instead, they ask me if I’m the guy who surpassed Michael Jordan Well, Mike has become immortal and I rely on past people to be remembered.
It was a special moment in my career because I always considered Mike as my idol. That night, we fought each other. I fought the man I love with the support of the Philadelphia crowd behind me.”
Just 2 years after that memorable moment, Iverson rose to prove his star status in the NBA. He let the NBA audience understand what real speed is in acceleration or dribbling the ball past people. Iverson has “twisted the ankles” of more opponents than any other NBA player of his generation.
When he became a superstar, Iverson changed both the dress and appearance culture at the American professional basketball tournament. Considered one of the coolest players in the history of the tournament, Iverson tells another story to show that Jordan is still more worthy of the word “cool”.
At the 2003 All-Star Game, Iverson wore a Jordan jersey to the arena and tried to find his idol in the locker room. Iverson wanted to see Jordan’s attitude when he knew he was also his big fan.
“Has anyone seen Mike?”, Iverson asked everyone when Jordan could not be found in the front area of the locker room. Running everywhere without seeing any sign of Jordan, Iverson decided to go find the coach to ask. Surely the coach must know where his players are.
And then when Iverson opened the door to the coach’s room, he suddenly saw a tall man sitting inside. Iverson narrates the story with a sense of excitement:
“There was only Mike in there, you won’t believe this. You won’t believe what I saw. It was Mike, he was already in uniform and was reclining in a reclining chair in coach’s room.
His attitude was as if there was nothing worth worrying about in this world. His feet rested on the table like a relaxing move on the beach. And to top it all off, he smoked a big, famous Mike-style cigar.
When you seriously say I’m a cool guy, I think I’m fine. But Mike is the only person I’ve ever met who gave me such a cool impression. His calmness and coldness make me remember him forever. Later, I kept thinking about what a wonderful gesture that man had, do you know what I mean?”
NBA fans of the 90s will certainly understand how Iverson feels. In a 2015 poll by a major sports magazine, Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant received the most votes for “Coolest NBA Player”.
Although not as strong in fashion as Iverson, Jordan always radiates a towering fighting spirit in every gesture and expression, both on and off the court.
Thanks to his special skills and fighting spirit, Jordan won 6 NBA championships, won the MVP title 5 times, became an All-Star 14 times, and became a Defensive Player 1 time. Best defender of the year and 10 times topped the entire NBA scoring list.
