Chiefs Cornerback Listed as One of NFL’s Best Young Players

The Kansas City Chiefs parted ways with their best cornerback earlier this offseason, so one of the younger guys on the roster is going to have to step up.

In a recent article by Bleacher Report’s Ryan Fowler, he lists who he believes are the top ten players in the league under the age of 25. At No. 6 on his list, he has Chiefs cornerback Trent McDuffie, who could be poised to take a leap this season.

“While year one saw Trent McDuffie live as an outside corner, the 2023 All-Pro quickly solidified himself as one of the NFL’s most dominant nickel defenders in 2023,” Fowler writes. “While McDuffie’s role will take on an extra level of importance with L’Jarius Sneed now in Tennessee, his ability to play inside-out at an elite level will continue to allow DC Steve Spagnuolo to remain unique in his coverages.”

Some will look at the fact that the young corner does not yet have an interception in his career and say that he has not lived up to the first-round pick title. But he brings much more than that to the Chiefs secondary.

He finished this past season with a very impressive number of total tackles for a corner with 80, and 60 of them were solo tackles. He also led all defensive backs this past season in quarterback pressures with 19.

Now that Sneed is on the Titans, McDuffie will have a prime opportunity to step up and be the team’s CB1 at the very young age of 23. He and the rest of the Chiefs’ secondary will be looking to help the team win its third straight Super Bowl this season.
