Cardi B engaged in a heated exchange with social media personality Raymonte Cole over issues of colorism and brand deals

Cardi B engaged in a heated exchange with social media personality Raymonte Cole over issues of colorism and brand deals. The argument stemmed from a TikTоk video posted by Cole, in which he expressed frustration about being labeled as “ghetto” while Cardi B, who he perceived as behaving similarly, enjoys social status and brand endorsements.

Cole suggested that Cardi B’s lighter skin tone made her more “marketable” compared to darker-skinned individuals from similar backgrounds. This led to a debate about colorism, prejudice based on skin color, and the challenges faced by darker-skinned individuals in the entertainment industry.

In response, Cardi B defended herself, stating that she faced discrimination and stereotyping despite her success. She emphasized the need for code-switching to adapt to different audiences and accused Cole of disregarding her efforts.

The conversation was prompted by an article on Essence magazine’s website highlighting the underrepresentation of Black influencers in the media. Cole criticized the publication for overlooking him despite featuring other influencers.

Raymonte Cole, a 24-year-old social media personality from Minneapolis, gained prominence on platforms like TikTоk and Instagram after the deаth of his brother in 2021. He clarified his remarks, explaining that the stigma of being “ghetto” is often attached to darker-skinned individuals.

The exchange between Cardi B and Raymonte Cole underscores the ongoing conversation about colorism and representation within the entertainment industry.
