Amid yet another disappointing season, the Atlanta Falcons have emerged as a prominent topic in the NFL trade market.

With the firing of head coach Arthur Smith, general manager Terry Fontenot finds himself under pressure to make aggressive moves to secure his job. Having won just seven games in each of the past three seasons, Fontenot faces immense scrutiny.

Enter star Kansas City Chiefs cornerback L’Jarius Sneed, whom the Falcons are reportedly eyeing. According to NFL insider Tony Pauline, Atlanta is among the teams showing interest in the Super Bowl hero.

Kansas City plans to franchise tag the 27-year-old cornerback ahead of NFL free agency and has given him permission to seek a trade, with the reported asking price being a second-round pick and additional assets.

Given the Falcons’ struggles in pass defense—opposing quarterbacks torched them for 24 touchdowns and just eight interceptions in 2023—it’s no surprise they’re looking to bolster their cornerback corps. Pairing Sneed with emerging talent A.J. Terrell in the secondary would undoubtedly strengthen Atlanta’s defense.

Sneed’s impressive stats from last season, including a 51% completion rate and a 56.2 quarterback rating when targeted, make him an enticing addition. Moreover, his stellar postseason performance played a significant role in Kansas City’s consecutive Super Bowl titles.

The potential acquisition of Sneed comes amidst speculation that the Falcons are poised to acquire Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields in a blockbuster trade. With the eighth pick in the 2024 NFL Draft and additional selections in the second and third rounds, Atlanta has the assets to facilitate such moves for veteran talent.
