In a report from ESPN, the final auction price is the most anyone has ever paid for a Jordan card. The NBA G.O.A.T (Greatest Of All Time) had several cards over his 13-year playing career, spent mostly with the Chicago Bulls and a two-year stint in Washington, but this particular card — a 2003-2004 Upper Deck Ultimate Logoman Collection — was only produced once, so it’s literally one of a kind.
“Logoman cards are typically limited to one copy and feature the NBA logo patch cut from, often, a game-used jersey,” ESPN writes.
But when it comes to sports cards, the top selling of all-time thus far belongs to Baseball Hall of Famer Mickey Mantle. The Oklahoma Kid’s 1952 Topps sold at auction in 2022 for $12.6 million.
Additionally, an original tobacco baseball card featuring Baseball Hall of Famer Honus Wagner (one of the game’s greatest shortstops) sold for more than $6 million.
Speaking of baseball, younger generations may not be aware that Michael Jordan briefly retired from basketball to embark on a baseball career. He stayed in the Chicago family signing with the cross-town White Sox and getting assigned to the Double-A Birmingham Barons. A popular “shirsey” (that’s a T-shirt reflecting the image of a player’s jersey) of Jordan’s from his playing days in Birmingham is still for sale in the Barons’ team store.
