Some of us might dabble with the odd bet on football or horses every now and again, but you may need to win the lottery to match what Michael Jordan has wagered in the past on golf.
Jordan, 61, is one of the richest sports stars in history thanks to his extraordinary career in the NBA, which has seen him acclaimed as the greatest player ever to grace the sport.
Much of his wealth has been generated by his exploits off the court, such as in film and his famous Air Jordan sneakers, with his estimated net worth standing at $3.2bn, according to Forbes.
Those lucrative deals followed his success on the basketball court, which saw him become NBA champion on six occasions, six times being crowned the MVP in the NBA Finals, and being named the NBA’s Most Valuable Player overall on five instances after playing for the Chicago Bulls and the Washington Wizards.
Jordan clearly has money to spend, and stand-up comedian Cedric the Entertainer has revealed the eye-watering sums of money the ‘GOAT’ once proposed to bet for each golf hole they were playing together.
Speaking on the latest episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Cedric revealed the crazy amount that Jordan was willing to bet, and it is something that has dissuaded him from gambling altogether.

“That kind of took me from betting altogether,” he said.
“Mike likes to play golf, and then he bets throughout the game and it gets pretty serious. It got out of my pay range very quickly.
“When you play with you Mike, it’s always like him and (Derek) Jeter and other baseball players and athletes.
“The time I played, (Charles) Barkley was with us, and they were playing like ten thousand a hole, $10,000 a hole.”
“(Jordan) was like, ‘You gotta play, Ced! You gotta play!’ And I was like, ‘I don’t have it, Mike.’
“I would have to open a second line of credit just to play golf with you guys!”
Yes, that’s right – $10,000 a hole.
Fortunately, you could say, the comedian says he managed to haggle down Jordan to just £1,000 a hole – though it didn’t end up going well for him.
He said: “I didn’t realise it was 18 of those, and I lost every one of them!”
