Jordan Mailata has come a long way. But how much so?

“If I’m being honest,” recalled Jason Kelce, “he looked absolutely terrible!”

REPORT: Jason Kelce Says Former Philadelphia Eagles Teammate Was 'Absolutely Terrible' - Gridiron Heroics

Kelce was asked on Twitter to offer a former teammate evaluation, and boy did he. The springboard of this is Kelce’s claim that he can tell if an offensive lineman can play by watching him in one rep.

Mailata was drafted in the seventh round by Philadelphia. And that one rep?

“He looked terrible because he had never played,” Kelce recalled. “The size and athleticism was obviously there, it was just a question of if it was going to click for him down the road with the techniques and fundamentals.”

Well, it clicked.

Mailata got things figured out in time to play in 15 games during the 2020 NFL season, then worked toward being a foundational piece, and now?

Mailata will be the starting left tackle for a Super Bowl conending Eagles team with a resume that includes having allowed just three sacks in 2023.

“Absolutely terrible” has turned it around … and Jason Kelce’s been exposed to have goofed up as a scout at least one.
