The infamous Deflategate scandal has resurfaced, thanks to former Eagles center Jason Kelce, who brought it up during a recent episode of his ‘New Heights’ podcast. Known for his straightforward opinions, Kelce didn’t hold back in sharing his unconventional stance on the matter, even though the controversy centers around Tom Brady and the New England Patriots from years ago.
Retired and free to speak his mind, Jason Kelce revealed that he supports the idea of deflating footballs. “I don’t even think Tom should have got in trouble for deflating footballs. I’m pro deflating footballs,” Kelce stated. He questioned the significance of air pressure in footballs, arguing, “Why the f**k does it matter how much air’s in that mother**k*r? If you’re throwing it and catching it, who the f**k cares?”
The Deflategate scandal, which emerged in 2015, accused Tom Brady and the Patriots of tampering with football air pressure to gain an advantage, a charge that Kelce finds misplaced.
Kelce blasts NFL over Deflategate
Kelce further argued that the rule penalized teams for not being clever enough to exploit it rather than ensuring fairness or player safety. He criticized other teams for not taking the same measures, saying:
“Why is that against the rules? I mean, yeah, because y’all could have taken it out too. You guys could have taken the air out too; you just weren’t smart enough. So why am I getting penalized because you’re f**king dummies? It’s a regulated rule, but it’s a stupid rule.”
Moreover, Kelce addressed the broader issue of game intelligence, such as stealing signs, which he views as part of the competitive spirit of the NFL. He admitted to bending the rules himself, like moving the ball forward an inch on 4th and goal, emphasizing that victory often requires pushing boundaries.
In his candid reflections, Jason Kelce invites a reconsideration of how the NFL enforces its rules, suggesting that intelligence and ingenuity should be celebrated rather than penalized. His comments reignite the debate over Deflategate and challenge the league to rethink its stance on what constitutes fair play.
