There’s a lot of work that comes along with being an NFL player.

Obviously, you have to have the size, strength, talent, and skill, but there’s just much more to it.

Besides being mature enough to be able to deal with the perks, demands, and responsibilities that come with being a professional athlete, you also have to put in a lot of ‘invisible’ work when the world isn’t watching.

You have to train right, eat right, watch a ton of film, and you have to learn the playbook.

Well, that last one might be optional if you’re an offensive lineman, according to Jason Kelce.

In the latest edition of his New Heights podcast, the retired center revealed that he hadn’t looked at a playbook in years.

He claimed that he didn’t like to use iPads and preferred physical playbooks, so he just stopped reading them once they went digital.

Kelce also claimed that there weren’t that many new concepts he had to learn for the running game, nor that he would have to go through the entire playbook definition; it was all about what was in front of him.

Of course, he can say that now that he’s retired, and it’s also the nature of his position.

There’s no way a quarterback would succeed with that same approach, not even his younger brother Travis Kelce, who’s a tight end.

Still, Kelce had a Hall of Famer career and is arguably the greatest center ever, so perhaps he’s on to something.
