The reigning NBA champion Nuggets started a three-game road trip with their third straight victory and eighth in their last ten games behind the play of Nikola Jokic, who finished with 24 points, 13 rebounds, and nine assists.

In the same arena where the Nuggets defeated Los Angeles twice to win the Western Conference finals in May of last year, Denver lost a 15-point lead in the second half but never trailed and ultimately concluded with a 10-2 run.

Denver coach Michael Malone remarked, “Give them credit, they had all the momentum and they were attacking us.” “I observed composure while playing offence and carrying it out.” You must be rebounding and defending well if you outscore that side 10-2 in the final few minutes.

The Lakers erected a 19-foot-tall bronze monument of Kobe Bryant outside their downtown arena three hours prior to the game. In their alternate Black Mamba uniforms, the Lakers took on Denver, and the evening was packed with Bryant honours. In the closing minutes, the audience started screaming, “Kobe! Kobe!” to support the present Lakers.

The Lakers’ longest winning run since the In-Season Tournament came to an end in their first game following an optimistic six-game road trip, led by 25 points from LeBron James and 32 points from Anthony Davis. Austin Reaves finished with 15 points and 10 assists, while James contributed nine rebounds and seven assists.

Jaxson Hayes, who led the Lakers with nine points and six rebounds, described the situation as “absolutely very frustrating.” It is always frustrating to lose so close, especially when you gave it your all in the last moments. .. We are all aware of the season and the necessity to focus on securing additional victories. I believe that everyone is acting with a sense of urgency.

The Lakers were severely short-staffed in terms of guards a few hours after they had declined to make any transactions at the trade deadline. Max Christie started in D’Angelo Russell’s place and scored seven points before spraining his right ankle just before halftime due to pain in his left knee.

“This is the team we have, and we can kind of get back into our groove once we get guys healthy,” Davis remarked.

Nuggets hold off Lakers in the final minutes for a victory

Midway in the third quarter, Denver had a 15-point lead. However, Los Angeles pulled even with 6:41 remaining on an alley-oop dunk by Skylar Mays for Davis.

After Hayes’ incredible chase-down block of Peyton Watson, Los Angeles tied the game again on a 3-pointer by Reaves with 2:18 remaining. However, the Nuggets responded with two 3-pointers by Murray and an 11-foot floater, and Porter sealed the victory with a 3-pointer with 1:05 remaining.

Despite the fact that neither of these teams made any significant trade deadline acquisitions, the Nuggets have greater cause for optimism with their championship-winning core than the inconsistent Lakers.

The Lakers decided against moving Russell’s tradeable deal at the deadline primarily due to his improved play in recent weeks. However, the starting point guard’s ailing left knee required an unknown treatment on Wednesday, which prevented him from playing.

According to Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka, he chose to remain in place rather than take a chance on upsetting the dynamic and potential of his team by signing a trade. Pelinka stated that, in order to acquire a third superstar, he will have three first-round picks available to him this summer as opposed to just one this month.

Pelinka stated, “My responsibility is to constantly search for methods to improve our roster, but you can’t buy a house that isn’t for sale.” It’s sometimes a careful and difficult calculus, and the proper move wasn’t there. Instead of aiming for a tiny target that would only yield a negligible increase today, we wanted to potentially create a far larger and more significant movement in June and July.

“The market is the market, despite our best efforts. There were incredibly few vendors.

Due to discomfort in his right hamstring, former Lakers swingman Kentavious Caldwell-Pope missed the Nuggets game. In his place, Justin Holiday had a difficult evening. He started the game with two points in 22 minutes and fouled out early in the fourth quarter.
