The Los Angeles Lakers appear to be in a state of total disarray at the moment.
Not only are they down in their best-of-seven first round playoff series against the Denver Nuggets, but team star Anthony Davis and head coach Darvin Ham also can’t seem to get on the same page.
A bit of a war of words between the two men has bubbled to the surface in recent days.
It all started with a comment Davis made following the Lakers’ Game 2 loss.
“We have stretches where we don’t know what we’re doing on both ends of the floor,” Davis said.
Understandably, many took that as an indictment on the coaching staff’s ability to get guys prepared for the games.
On Wednesday, Ham fired back at Davis.
“I think sometimes the plays don’t turn out the way you think they should. The frustration sets in a little bit,” Ham said.
“I don’t think it’s, for us, not being organized. I have incredibly talented coaches all along my staff. … We pride ourselves on being highly efficient and organized. I’d just chalk that up to being frustrated. It’s an emotional game, the way it ended, so I’ll agree to disagree on that one.”
The Lakers have now lost to the Nuggets 10 straight times. It is hard to see a scenario where they come back and pull off the upset in this first-round series.
Will this tiff with Davis coupled with what feels like an inevitable early exit from the playoffs lead to Ham losing his job as the Lakers’ head coach? Time will tell.
