Boston Celtics Extend Home Win Streak with Victory over Portland Trail Blazers
In a commanding performance, the Boston Celtics secured their 13th consecutive home victory by defeating the Portland Trail Blazers 124-107 on Sunday night. Jaylen Brown led the charge for the Celtics, scoring 26 points and reaching the significant milestone of 10,000 career points in the NBA.
Kristaps Porzingis contributed to Boston’s success with his third consecutive double-double, recording 12 points and 10 rebounds in just 27 minutes on the court. Payton Pritchard added 20 points, while Derrick White and Jrue Holiday chipped in with 15 and 12 points respectively. The win marked the Celtics’ 14th victory in their last 16 games overall.
Speaking on Brown’s achievement, Boston coach Joe Mazzulla praised the player’s dedication and growth throughout his career. Mazzulla emphasized Brown’s evolution into a complete player on both ends of the court and expressed pride in coaching him through this milestone moment.
Despite the Trail Blazers’ efforts, led by Dalano Banton’s 28 points and Deandre Ayton’s 22 points and 14 rebounds, they fell short against the Celtics. Jabari Walker contributed 14 points and 18 rebounds for Portland, which concluded a challenging 2-5 road trip.
The absence of Celtics star Jayson Tatum due to a right knee contusion did not deter Boston’s performance. With the league’s best record and home-court advantage secured, the Celtics continue to assert their dominance heading into the playoffs.
In his eighth season, Brown reached the 10,000-point milestone with a remarkable left-handed scoop shot early in the second half. The TD Garden crowd honored Brown with a standing ovation, acknowledging his achievement and unwavering commitment to the team.
Boston sealed the victory in the final quarter, fueled by consecutive 3-pointers from Sam Hauser and Xavier Tillman during a decisive 12-0 run. The Celtics maintained control of the game after taking the lead in the first quarter and never trailed again.
Before the game, the Celtics paid tribute to Portland coach Chauncey Billups for his induction into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame. Billups expressed gratitude for the warm reception from the Boston crowd and reflected on his brief but memorable time with the Celtics earlier in his career.
The game also marked the return of former Celtics center Robert Williams III and guard Malcolm Brogdon, who were traded to Portland in the offseason. Williams was greeted with a display of his nickname, “Time Lord,” on the video board, showcasing the lasting impact of his time with the Celtics organization.
