The whole skinny.
Veteran center Harry Giles III, the oft-injured former No. 20 first round draft pick out of Duke in 2017, initially emerged as a surprising pick for your Los Angeles to make with one of their two-way contract slots late into the season.
Giles, a 6’11” center, has appeared sparingly in mop-up minutes across two games for Los Angeles thus far, averaging 0.5 boards across two minutes per.
According to Luke Adams of Hoops Rumors, Giles inked a one-season, rest-of-year deal with Los Angeles, meaning he can become a restricted free agent in the offseason. Giles replaced another veteran with significant experience (for a two-way player, anyway), wing Dylan Windler, who landed on his feet, having inked a fresh rest-of-year two-way deal of his own with the Atlanta Hawks.
Obviously, the goal is for Giles to perform well enough to warrant a non-guaranteed or standard veteran’s minimum deal on a 15-man NBA roster heading into next fall. That will most likely require him to step up for an injured player in a major way, perhaps even in a postseason context, at this point.
The 25-year-old has suited up for four different NBA franchises across four different seasons, but prior to linking up with the Brooklyn Nets this year hadn’t played a the NBA level until the 2020-21 season.
