Following his trade from the Portland Trail Blazers to the Milwaukee Bucks, Damian Lillard filed for divorce from his wife Kay’la a few days later. The news shocked the NBA community, since the pair just celebrated their second anniversary. The seven-time All-Star gave the explanation that there were “irreconcilable differences” in his divorce papers.

Damian Lillard Files for Kay’La’s Divorce

The mother of three stated (via Radar Online) in the divorce filing:

Father has never been able to care for all three of our children on his own for an extended length of time without the assistance of family members, nannies, and/or assistants.

“When the kids lived with me full-time in my home, Father got to decide when and how often he saw them. Father would come over to play with the kids for thirty to an hour, either when I was there or with a nanny a few times a week, when he was in town and not travelling for basketball, media, endorsements, or his music endeavours.

Damian Lillard has a history of sharing pictures of himself and his kids having a good time on social media. In one of his Instagram pictures, he once had the caption, “dad of all times.”

Regarding her decision to remain silent in spite of Lillard’s supposed inadequate parenting, Kay’la Lillard stated the following:

“I am aware of his hectic schedule and the several responsibilities he has. I also realise that the “Damian Lillard” brand must maintain its image of a family man. Even after we split up for a few months, I have persisted in promoting that image to the general public.

In a Christmas interview, Dame added, “Being away from my kids and everything that I’ve known has probably been the biggest challenge.”

It’s a challenge. It is a struggle that exists every day. Any mother or father would understand that. There’s nothing in the world you love more than waking up and being able to spend quality time with your children in person.

I wake up every day thinking, “Man, my kids are not physically seeing my face today because I’m away from them.” I am unable to give them a hug. I am unable to go pick up my son from school. I am unable to pick up my son and twin daughters.

Things are just impossible to accomplish when you’re this far away. And they are the things I’m most proud of and I love doing the most. There’s enough to be grateful for when you lose it, and for a very good cause. But it is difficult.
