Bryce James reposts a video that was mocking Darvin Ham on his TikTok account.
LeBron James’ youngest son, Bryce James, has taken a shot at Los Angeles Lakers head coach Darvin Ham on TikTok. Bryce reposted a video that showed Ham as the cartoon character Arthur, with his hands in his pockets as the Denver Nuggets are on a 15-0 run.
The sight of Ham with his hands in his pockets as the Lakers’ opponent went on a crazy run was something Lakers fans got sick of. They hilariously reacted to Bryce reposting this.
One said even LeBron’s son knows Ham can’t coach.
A fan said LeBron must be complaining about Ham at home.
One claimed this was insider information.
A fan claimed that LeBron told Bryce to do this and that Ham would be gone soon.
One said that even Bryce’s AAU coaches could coach better than Ham.
Ham was given nicknames like “Coach Pockets” by fans for just standing there and not doing something like calling a timeout to turn the tide of games. To say he is not a popular figure among the fanbase would be an understatement.
While Bryce was the one who reposted this, some would inevitably believe that LeBron was behind this. When a family member of an athlete posts anything about the team, people inevitably believe the athlete had a role to play there too. I don’t necessarily think the 39-year-old had anything to do with it, but perhaps LeBron has voiced his frustration on this matter at home at some point.
What has seemed fairly clear for a while now is that James has not been all that pleased with the job that his head coach has been doing. LeBron reportedly overrode Ham’s plays during timeouts and team huddles. He would call his own plays instead, which if true, shows just what he thought of Ham’s coaching acumen.
As per a report, LeBron was also not happy with Ham during the Lakers’ mid-season struggles. He was not the only one either, to have issues with how the head coach was running things. Lakers players were frustrated after Ham benched D’Angelo Russell and Austin Reaves during the season. By all indications, it wasn’t a happy camp.
Darvin Ham Appears To Be On His Way Out
So, if the players were frustrated with the head coach and the team was eliminated in the first round of the playoffs in five games, you know what’s coming next. It has been reported that Ham is unlikely to return as Lakers head coach next season.
There were some mumblings about the 50-year-old still keeping his job even if the Lakers were knocked out early, but it appears that is not the case. If this is indeed the end, Ham exits with a 90-74 record in the regular season and a 9-12 record in the postseason over his two campaigns.
The positives from his tenure would be a run to the Western Conference Finals and victory in the In-Season Tournament last year. It certainly wasn’t all doom and gloom, but you felt things could have been better.
That regular season record is underwhelming and had the Lakers finished higher in the standings this season, they would have avoided a first-round matchup with the Denver Nuggets. Would Ham have been on his way out if LA had gone on another deep playoff run? I am not sure, but it would have certainly helped his chances of keeping the job.
