The Los Angeles Lakers are expected to be one of the busiest and most aggressive teams in the league during this upcoming NBA offseason, with the storied franchise desperate to find a third star to play alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

Over the past couple of months, star guards Donovan Mitchell and Trae Young have been mentioned more often than not as potential Lakers targets.

Lakers Possibly Trading For Darius Garland

However, Young recently changed his representation from Klutch Sports to CAA, which might indicate that he’s not heading to Los Angeles this summer.

On the other hand, Mitchell has always seemed like a long-shot option for the Lakers, with other teams expected to offer more trade assets to the Cleveland Cavaliers for his services.

As if that wasn’t bad enough for the Lakers, Cavaliers team owner Dan Gilbert doesn’t seem to want to work with the Lakers on a deal involving Mitchell.

Although Mitchell and Young might be off the table, Darius Garland could still be in play for Los Angeles, with ESPN’s Bobby Marks mapping out a deal that would “make sense” between the two teams via NBA Central.

“If the Cavaliers do make Garland available, one trade that could make sense would be a package centered around the Los Angeles Lakers’ Austin Reaves and Rui Hachimura,” Marks said.

At this point in time, if the Lakers genuinely want to bring in a third star player for one more shot at another NBA title in the LeBron era in Los Angeles, the team will almost certainly have to part ways with guard Austin Reaves.

That said, this trade proposal seems fair, as it gives the Lakers another star while sending ample compensation to Cleveland.
