Jennifer Lopez recently took a trip down memory lane to her time on the set of the movie “Selena” and explained why she did not sing in the film. The singer and actress opened up about the experience during a virtual conversation at the 2021 Telun Film Festival.

Lopez, who portrayed the late Tejano icon Selena Quintanilla in the 1997 biopic, explained that her portrayal of Selena did not include her singing voice for a specific reason. She said that her goal was to honor Selena’s spirit and essence as accurately as possible.

Therefore, she felt it was more important to lip-sync to Selena’s original recordings rather than attempt to mimic her singing.

Lopez revealed that she went through extensive vocal coaching to learn Selena’s songs, but ultimately the decision was made to use the original tracks. She believed that using Selena’s own voice would allow the audience to truly feel her presence and connect with her.
