A total of 9 Kansas City players did not participate in full workouts during Wednesday’s voluntary OTA session.

On Wednesday, the Kansas City Chiefs conducted the third and final session of this week’s voluntary Organized Team Activities (OTAs) at the team’s practice facility on the grounds of the Truman Sports Complex.

Our Pete Sweeney was among the media representatives who got their first look at the 2024 Chiefs on Wednesday. Running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire, wide receiver Kadarius Toney, left guard Joe Thuney, tight end Travis Kelce, defensive tackle Isaiah Buggs and defensive tackle Chris Jones were not present for the voluntary session.

Players who were present — but appeared on the practice field without helmets — included defensive tackle Derrick Nnadi, defensive end Charles Omenihu and wide receiver Xavier Worthy.

KSHB-TV sports anchor (and Arrowhead Pride contributor) Aaron Ladd was also present, posting some video from the first OTA session open to reporters — one of them showing Worthy on the field.

After practice, head coach Andy Reid said Worthy had “tweaked” a hamstring ”a few days ago.”

“When he gets back, we’ll take it from there,” said Reid. ”He’s a smart kid. He’s got a good feel for things. He comes from a good system. He’s done a few of the things we’ve done in college, so he’ll just work through that. I think we’ll be all right.”

Quarterback Patrick Mahomes feels the same way.

“Before he had the hamstring thing, he was getting in there and getting the work in,” he noted. “Sometimes it’s tough for those guys coming off the Combine training. They want to prove what they can do from Day 1 — and then little injuries like that happen.

“We’re going to be precautionary right now — he could probably get out there if we really wanted him to — but you can see he’s sitting right beside the guys, asking all the right questions.

“Whenever he does get back on the field, I’ll be excited to work with him.”

The team will have two more rounds of voluntary OTA sessions. The second one will be Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of next week. The final round of OTAs will run June 4-7. The team’s mandatory minicamp will be conducted June 11-13.
