Jason Kelce has hinted that he could remain in football in some capacity if he calls time on his legendary playing career this offseason.

The 36-year-old is currently weighing up whether to retire after his 13th NFL season with the Philadelphia Eagles, who were dumped out of this year’s playoffs at the Wild Card Round by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday night.

After suggesting prior to the game that it could be his last in the sport – and then looking teary on the sidelines as the Eagles fell to a 32-9 defeat – Kelce reportedly told his teammates that in the locker room afterwards that he is hanging up his cleats.

There are likely to be plenty of options on the table for him, with some Philadelphia fans even urging Kelce to stay with the franchise as a coach next season. And on Wednesday the veteran center admitted he ‘always wants to be involved in the game’.

‘I don’t even know what involves my future, whether it’s playing football or not,’ he told reporters. ‘I have no idea. We’ll figure it out.

‘I don’t wanna address any of this stuff right now. I don’t like to live in absolutes in general.’

‘It’s hard to make those shifts a lot of times in season,’ Kelce continued, according to CBS Sports. ‘It can be done, we didn’t get it done. I feel confident those shifts can be made.

‘I’ll always wanna be involved in the game. It’s a hard thing to step away from, completely, I’m imagining.

‘I still want — there’s a lot of things I still want to learn about football. I still want to figure out what we can do to figure out what happened these last six, seven weeks.

‘I know a lot about my little pocket of football, but I’d love to know more about the collective whole. That’s something I’d love to get a better grasp on in the future.’

If he does indeed retire, Kelce will bow out as a Super Bowl winner, six-time All-Pro and future Hall-of-Fame inductee after his iconic spell in Philadelphia, where he spent the entirety of his NFL career.

He first broke his silence after the Bucs defeat on the latest episode of his New Heights podcast with his brother Travis, saying: ‘I didn’t announce what I was doing on purpose – despite what’s been leaked to the media.’

‘But I think people can feel body language and stuff…’

The former Cincinnati star, who was drafted by the Eagles in 2011, continued: ‘I just don’t think you’re in a position, after a game like that, to really make that decision. I just don’t. There’s too much emotion in the moment, there’s too much going down in the moment to really fully grasp that decision.

‘I’m not trying to be dramatic and continue to draw this thing out, I’m really not. It’s just something that I think – when it’s time to officially announce what’s happening in the future. it’ll be done in a way that’s definitive and pays respect to a lot of people and individuals who mean a lot to me and what has led to the career I’ve had.

‘And I don’t think it would be respectful or even accurate to be able to do that right after a game like that. (I’m) frustrated, I guess, at everything that’s happening but in the future there’ll be something said.’
