It is not easy to get into the head of Chicago Bulls legend Michael Jordan. The NBA Hall of Famer is the one who loves to mess with others, but would you believe that a comedian from the Breaking Bad fame managed to trigger the 6x champion? As surprising as it sounds, it did happen in reality. In a podcast episode with NFL legend Shannon Sharpe, the 55-year-old comedian shared how his Airness grabbed him by his shirt for making remarks on his baseball stint with the Birmingham Barons.
Oh, and if you are wondering who the above comedian is, do you remember the man sitting on a humongous pile of cash in the show Breaking Bad? It is none other than, Lavell Crawford, known for his special appearance in Breaking Bad, and now known for getting into the head of Michael Jordan. Crawford shared with Sharpe about the unearthed incident of his interaction with Jordan.
Crawford revealed, “I talked about Michael Jordan playing baseball…’He is a legend in basketball, he ain’t a legend in softball…He ain’t that damn good’…I said, ‘He can’t even hit the ball’. I was giving him the business. And after the game, I went over and asked for a picture.” That’s a gutsy move from Crawford.
However, he was not ready for what Jordan was about to do. The comedian recalled, “He took it hard. He said, he grabbed me and was like ‘N**** let me tell you something, I’ll take a picture with you but you better stop talking about me.’”
Phew, that sounded like a nightmare. However, Crawford clarified that it was all for fun.
Does Lavell Crawford regret taking a jab at Michael Jordan’s baseball career?
As a comedian, definitely not. There are several instances like the above where popular comedians have made jokes about professional athletes. Well, no one would be interested in messing with MJ, but Crawford did. He shared with Sharpe, “This is how I am as a person. If I get opportunities I’m having fun with it”. Clearly, Crawford made the best use of the opportunity.
Regardless, Michael Jordan’s career in baseball was cut short after he couldn’t find any success. He joined Minor League Baseball after winning his third championship in 1993. Jordan took this risky move only for his dad, who was a huge fan of baseball. The 6x NBA champion played 127 games for the Birmingham Barons, in which he struck out 114 times in 497 plate appearances. To be more elaborate, he had a success rate of only 22.9%. Now we know why Lavell Crawford joked about the Bulls icon.
