All things considered, the voting committee does a commendable job of bestowing these awards on what appears to be a significant draft class. Sadly, none of the ten players chosen were Portland Trail Blazers players.

Scoot Henderson of the Blazers did not make the 2023–24 NBA All-Rookie squads. The No. 3 overall pick in the draft class, point guard Scoot Henderson of the Blazers, is one player that fell short of the cut. Throughout the season, Henderson shot 39/33/82 for an average of 14 points, 5.4 assists, 3.1 rebounds, and 0.8 steals per game. Despite his strong argument to at least be named to the Second Team, he was eventually not selected by the voters.

Dereck Lively II, a center for the Dallas Mavericks, is one player on the NBA All-Rookie Second Team who has a strong argument for being on the First Team. Other than Lively, though, it appears that everyone else picked the right Second Team. This is the result of the remaining votes.

Along with Warriors big man Trayce Jackson-Davis and Pistons wing Ausar Thompson, Henderson would have headed an NBA All-Rookie Third Team. Jackson-Davis of the Grizzlies and GG Jackson II of the team played a very close game for the final slot on the Second Team, with a one-point difference. Ten less points than Jackson, Henderson’s final tally was 33.

It’s interesting to note that Thompson and Jackson-Davis did not garner any votes in first place, while Henderson did.

Toumani Camara and Duop Reath, two rookies for the Blazers, each got two votes for second place. Despite Portland’s disappointing season, they’ve been nice surprises, and it’s great to see them earning respect around the league.

Henderson had a chance to make the Second Team, but if he keeps improving, it won’t matter when his career is over. Henderson’s final few games of the season were considerably better.
